It’s always warm in Bali, but the month you choose to visit the island can significantly affect your vacation experience. Sunny days on the beach, lush green rice fields, peaceful temples, and sudden rain showers – all of this contributes to the island’s special charm!
The perfect time to book your Bali holiday will vary according to your interests. Some would like longer days on the beach and less rain, while others would prefer less congestion on the streets and lower prices. May, June, and September are often a good mix, but each season has its own advantages and disadvantages, as outlined below.

Spas, food, culture and a slower plan |
The major seasons of Bali are dry (April to October) and wet (November through March). There is a warm average temperature all year, and often in the coastal areas the temperature is between 26°C and 30°C. Areas of the city, such as Ubud, and mountain regions can be cooler, particularly in the morning and early evening.
A typical holidays in Bali
One typical Bali day shows why the season is only part of the story. If there is no heat, the small group can depart Ubud at 8 a.m. to visit the rice terraces before the sun's heat is on. Dark clouds may be seen above the hills at noon. The rain is heavy enough that the group calls it a day at the local cafe for tea and lunch after 30 minutes. By 2 p.m., the rain has passed and the next temple visit can go ahead.
The short stop may even become one of the best parts of the day. You have time to try Balinese coffee, watch the rain fall over the fields and share photos with the group. Instead of spoiling the plan, the shower adds a calm pause between two visits.
This is why a flexible plan works well in Bali. We recommend one key outdoor stop in the morning and another in the afternoon/evening. In all seasons, a light raincoat, sun cream, and shoes with a good grip may be helpful.
The best months for a balanced trip
Our team often points to May, June and September. These months sit outside the busiest summer weeks, yet they still fall within the dry part of the year.
May is usually the month people choose for their first visit. This month, you can spend 3–4 days near the coast and then head to Ubud to admire the rice fields, visit temples, and sample local dishes.
September is another strong option. The main summer rush has eased, but beach time and outdoor visits still fit well into the day. It is a simple answer for couples, small groups and Deaf travellers who prefer a less rushed pace.
Is the wet season worth it?
Yes, for the right type of holiday. Bali does not close when the rain starts. A wet morning may turn into a clear afternoon, though some days can bring long showers.
The wet season may suit you if you like:
- green fields and full waterfalls;
- more time for cafes, spas and museums;
- a flexible daily plan;
- shorter beach plans.
We usually plan our main outdoor stop before lunch, followed by an indoor option. According to our customers, this is the perfect combination.
Choose the season by your plans
For beaches and boat trips, June to September is often the safer choice. For walks near Mount Batur or highland views, dry months may also give you a better chance of clear skies.
Food is a good year-round activity, as is an art visit and a visit to a temple. Mixing 3 nights by the sea and 4 nights in Ubud is possible in a 7-day trip. The north or east part of Bali can be added in another 10 days without a hectic schedule.
A quick way to choose:
- July or August: put dry weather first and accept larger crowds;
- May, June or September: aim for the best overall balance;
- November to March: choose green views and keep your plans flexible.
Our final view
There is no bad month for Bali, but there is a better month for your style of trip. We would choose May, June or September for a first holiday. They give you more room to enjoy Bali at a calm pace.
